I haven't thought of this for many years, but for those of you still around:

Keep the faith and take care of each other.

Troupe Thanksgiving anyone?

My house is available after 3 on the Friday after Thanksgiving -- would people want to come by and eat delicious things?

1:28 pm - Shirts

Anyone want a collection of medium TJ drama shirts from '02-'05? My family's moving to Charlottesville, I'm moving out soon for real anyway, and somewhere along the way I've given myself permission to acknowledge that I no longer have any earthly reason to hold on to these shirts. Act fast.

7:24 pm - Troupe Thanksgiving!

For those interested in joining the merriment, please indicate when you will be free between the dates of 11/21 and 11/23 here. After a very complicated mathematical process which will include how many people, how cold it will be, which houses are available on those days, the 15th digit of pie (haha...), Fourier transforms of turkeys and much more, an optimal date will be determined.

All are welcome! This includes: guys! girls! freshman through seniors! creepy alums that don't actually know anyone anymore! creepy alums that still do know people! and everyone else that doesn't fall into any of those categories. Actually maybe not someone that doesn't fall into at least one of those. Bring real food, bring dessert, or just bring lots of hugs!

This post is going to be a much less formal version of the email that we sent out to everyone regarding the current state of affairs and everything involving troupe at the present.

This year Froshfest isn't happening. It's impossible, we've done everything. The performance was supposed to be Nov. 7 (a spot we still intend on occupying) but the way it has been presented to us we would only be able to have 6 rehearsals between now and then. Our hope is that we can throw some short scenes together relatively last minute in order to still have a fall show. Please, if you were planning on coming to see us still do so, we could use all of the support we can get.

To quote Ghandi, "A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history." We have done so, and will continue to do so as long as we are here. We are not going anywhere, and as far as we can tell, the spirit of Shakespeare Troupe has not died out or diminished in any way. We are not done here.

Everything that we are doing is now changing focus to As You Like It. Everything we have is going toward this one production, so that we can have at minimum one "normal" troupe show - if there is such a thing. We still have Folgers and Shakespearience, those as far as we know will remain untouched.

And so, with the future in mind, we forge on, cut out losses and live to fight another day. Please, whatever you do, do not go protesting with big burning crosses and pentagons to the administration. We have enough bad faith with them as is, we don't want to aggravate the situation any more than it already is. We're trying to act as a filter for all of the negativity that is sure to arise from this, so please pass any sentiments through council first.

Keep the faith,
Kevin D
on behalf of council

A pinkish pearl necklace was left at troupe picnic. After much debate we determined they were fake. We think. If it's yours shoot me an email ( kevin dot deisz at gmail dot com ) and I'll find a way to get it back to you. Alternatively come into the audlob tomorrow between the hours of 1030 and 1130 because we have a free hour in which we're not doing anything, I'll have it on me.

Hey all! I left my Nalgene (blue, has my name written on the side, narrow mouth) at Greensprings yesterday. If you happened to pick it up, could you please let me know (facebook, livejournal, IM, phone, email, however)? Thanks!

Council messed up last year and forgot 4 additional points for Mike Gold. The current record is 100 points, held by the aforementioned. Thank you.

Disclaimer: Nothing is absolutely final.

We got a fucking spring show.
Not a full length, admittedly, but it's a show.
Feel free to congratulate myself, Talia, Zach, Meg and Mrs. Bello.

P.S. The show is after alums finals, so they can all see it too.
Fuck yes.

Presale? March 19.

If you went the last time they were at Wolf Trap, you will recall that it was excellent. If you've never seen them live, well then you're missing out. So come!

Lawn seats for the win.

Well, fine, Mr. Stroup. If you get to rave about Shakespeare on the Lawn, I guess I get to do a little raving about Shakespeare in the Dark.

Like UVA, William & Mary has its own student-run, student-directed, student-designed, and student-acted theatre group dedicated to performing all thirty-nine of those wonderful plays we know and love. (If only we could find that thirty-ninth one, though.) Also founded by a Troupe Alum (maybe; it's been difficult to ascertain the validity of that statement), SitD has a healthy swelling of TJST alumni--as many of you already know from coming down to see last semester's production of Measure for Measure. In fact, the last two shows and the current show have all been directed, at least in part, by a TJST alum. There's definitely a growing presence of the Troupe mentality in SitD shows.

So if you're thinking about heading down to Williamsburg next year and want more information about Shakespeare in the Dark, feel free to drop me a line!

10:41 pm - Shameless plug!

Hi Troupe!

Seeing the post about the website got me really excited and I wanted to mention that there are plenty of ways to keep the faith after graduating. Just about every college campus has a theater group devoted to Shakespeare and you should certainly contact someone about getting involved. At UVA, we really love our Willy! Shakespeare on the Lawn is a group that was founded by a Troupe Alum almost 12 years ago and we've seen many TJST alumni in our show programs over the years. While only a few relics of Troupe tradition remain with us now, we still uphold a strong commitment to building a community that rallies around the production of the works of Shakespeare. Like Troupe, SotL is also the little guy when it comes to theater wars, especially given that all our shows are free, so the "fight against the man" mentality that brings everyone together is certainly omnipresent.

If you have any interest in getting involved with Shakespeare on the Lawn, don't hesitate to shoot me an email!

Nick Stroup

SotL 2009

PS - We just elected shows for next year and we'll be performing King Lear in the fall and All's Well in the spring! Should be exciting!

There were rumors that there was an updated version of the constitution lying about, if so, council could really use it right about now. Any help is much appreciated.

7:07 pm - The Two Gentlemen of Verona

As you may of heard, we have some rather poor drivers in Annandale.  Either way, one of them managed to crash into a fire-hydrant.   SO, our Friday show got canceled!  For this reason, we are having two shows - Saturday and Sunday at 7.

Things start up at 11 - on Saturday, dress rehearsal, on Sunday, disc.

Circle, for those of you coming back, starts at 5 and 4:30 respectively [Jan. 19 and 20].

Dancing, the hour before.

Ick.  Please please please come! :D

Cast Party is probably going to be at my house [it's in Reston!].  I will post the address by tomorrow, but if you show up to the show, I'll have the obligatory directions on how to get there...

That's all for now!
